Receive a $2,400 student award when you take certain manufacturing-related classes in 2026-27! Thanks to a $5M U.S. Small Business Administration grant, more than 600 students can earn the student award if they take a short-term class in fabrication, machining, welding, blueprint reading, quality assurance, manufacturing, and advanced manufacturing technologies at Central Maine Community College (CMCC), Southern Maine Community College (SMCC), and York County Community College (YCCC). Alfond Workforce Scholarship

Take college classes for half the cost. If you’re working and want to earn a certificate or degree, the Harold Alfond Center’s Workforce Scholarship can make college more affordable. Many Maine students have some college but no degree—this scholarship is designed to help you return, finish, or start a new path.

What it covers

Note: Courses with more than three credits may have a higher total cost that is not fully covered by the scholarship.  Additional fees, books, and materials are not included.

 

Who's eligible

  • Maine residents who are 18+
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Working at least part-time
  • Enrolled (or plan to enroll) less than full-time (11 credits or fewer per semester)

How to get started

  1. Enroll in a Maine community college
  2. Create or log in to your Upskill Maine account
  3. Apply for the Workforce Scholarship in Upskill Maine
